Flanders is the most densely built region in Europe. But its poor spatial planning is increasingly causing problems: just think of the endless traffic jams, or regular floods. In response to these challenges, the Flemish Government devised the ‘bouwshift’, a strategy around smarter building while preserving precious nature and open space.
In this manifesto for ‘de sociaal rechtvaardige bouwshift’, Stadsform in collaboration with Endeavour go several steps further, and advocate for a more rigorous shift in our political framework. The pamphlet, which is also free for download, shows how Flanders should build in a socially just way, based on six pillars. Oana Bogdan made a contribution to this manifesto, sharing our vision on land use and architecture as a tool for social justice.
