In this reportage on Kanaal – VERVOORDT r.e. in Wijnegem, NAV (Netwerk Architecten Vlaanderen) gives the word to the different actors of the project.
BOGDAN & VAN BROECK, together with Stéphane Beel Architects, and Coussée Goris Huyghe created a site where unity and diversity go hand in hand. Each architect worked out part of the urban master plan, drawn up by engineer architect Jens Aerts. Each office gave a fascinating individuality to the site whilst at the same time creating a strong interaction between the different parts of the site. The whole results in a real “country town” in which to live and work in a sustainable and relaxing environment.
In this reportage, Leo Van Broeck discusses the specific project within this master plan, the quality of life through a number of ambitious criteria and the project as an example of transforming a post-industrial brownfield into a high-density residential neighbourhood with a very large amount of ecologically valuable green space.
