MASTERPLAN AND LONG-TERM VISION ON THE HERITAGE, SCENOGRAPHY, ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPING OF GAASBEEK CASTLE AND ITS SURROUNDING DOMAIN | SELECTION ORGANISED BY THE CLIENT, 1ST PLACE
Gaasbeek Castle and its estate are reconfigured into one ensemble that works as an ideal historical backdrop for contrasting and almost ‘provoking’ contemporary art exhibitions and performances.
Several feasibility studies have been developed during the creation of the long-term vision for Gaasbeek Estate:
– Evaluation and research by design on possible solutions to upgrade the Castle and its pavilions to contemporary norms related to scenography and accessibility, increasing the readability of the different historical layers that are present in the buildings.
– Evaluation of various locations in the estate where a new auditorium for concerts and conferences - combined with new management offices – could be introduced.
– Integrated landscaping vision for the park, aiming for an enhanced and broader range of possible experiences, and for a higher level of biodiversity with – next to the formal gardens – more wilder and more natural areas with lower maintenance.
The approach within this study is based on the understanding that any kind of listed real estate or landscape that stops changing actually dies.
